We must not blame young African-Americans for expressing outrage over weekly killings of other African-Americans.
We all should be outraged and demanding attention to these murders.
We cannot dismiss the fear, anger, and frustration of people who cannot stand the continuing assaults on their communities and people.
But please let us not dismiss a man, because of his reaction to a difficult situation.
I don’t believe we can resolve our interwoven crises of poverty, racism, inequality, and warmongering unless we fundamentally and seriously attack racism.
And we cannot make progress on racism without fundamentally addressing poverty.
These can’t be either-or questions. The answers are both-and.
I am very proud to continue to support Bernie Sanders as strongly as I can for president. I am way beyond thinking any man or woman is always perfect.
Bernie Sanders is a great man and great friend and he will be a great president.
But all of us who are white have got to step back and step up on America’s original sin–racism. Racism is a problem white people have to fix, and that starts with confrontation with ourselves on white privilege and expectation. 500 years racism has been used to justify unspeakable horrors and divide one another and to keep down all workers.
