Si Kahn Awarded Winthrop University’s Medal of Honor in the Arts

America’s best living folk song writer, a great organizer, and my close longtime friend and brother Si Kahn is receiving Winthrop University’s very prestigious Medal of Honor in the Arts. It is well deserved and overdue. As you read the announcement, remember that Si was and is an organizer first. He co-founded the Brown Lung Association, worked with Mineworkers Union and ACTWU, and wrote a book very important to me. It was my introduction to organizing, How People Get Power, and it put me on the path that led to a great life. He’s recorded 16 albums folk and/or bluegrass, and he’s used his art to lift our struggle and the people in our struggle.
